Eyes On Asia Awards 2014


The Eyes on Asia Awards 2014 is designed to provide a platform to recognize great travel photographers, both amateur and professional. The contest only accepts travel photographs taken in Asia Pacific countries and Australia, with a positive, uplifting travel theme. However, the contestants can live anywhere in the world. The awards want to give all nationalities and levels of abilities to compete equally, both amateur and professional. Our goal is to recognize the best!


Categories

1. People: Uplifting and inspiring photographs of people who call Asia & Oceania their home. From Eastern Turkey to the islands of Indonesia and Japan, we want portraits and pictures of people at work or play, at home or in a religious setting.
2. Nature: Depictions of nature images and landscapes. Landscapes are images of the visible features of an area, including physical elements such as landforms, living elements of flora and fauna, abstract elements like lighting and weather conditions, and human elements like human activity.
3. Travel Folio: A four to six shot collection that tells a story about a person or a place. The essay must be Asian/Oceanic themed and shot in Asia & Oceania. It can’t be depressing or shocking.
4. Sense of Place: A single picture that tells a complete story about a place and gives a powerful impression of what it’s like to be there. Must include basic elements like people and urban or cityscapes.
5. Instagram: A single travel picture from anywhere in Asia & Oceania that is taken with Instagram.

Prize Details

The main prize starts at 1000 USD. Starting from 200 image entries with each image entry it will go up by 1 dollar. At present, the maximum prize money for the main prize is 6600 USD.
All individual categories' jackpot starts at 100 USD. With each image entry they will go up by 1 USD.

The overall winner will get to pick a prize of his/her choice from the list of prizes below. The individual category winners will then get to choose the remaining prizes; the order of which is determined by the jackpot amount. The winner of the category with the highest jackpot amount gets to choose first.

Rules

5. The Eyes on Asia Awards competition is open to all photographers both amateur and professionals.
Anyone, who makes less than US$1,000 per month on combined images sold or photography services is defined as amateur, but has the choice to enter either in the Professional or the Amateur categories with the respective entry fees, but not in both at the same time.
6. By entering the competition you hereby accept these Competition Rules and the Terms and Conditions.

Entry Conditions

7. Closing date of all entries: 31st Dec 2014
8. Entry fee: 10/15 USD
9. To enter, you must upload your Entry(s) at the following website: www.eyesonasiaawards.com (the 'Website'), following the on-screen instructions carefully.
10. Entrants may enter as many images as you wish (the 'Entry' or 'Entries') in the competition. Each entry must be entered into a category. Entrants may enter all their entries into one category, or any of the five Categories: People, Nature, Travel-folio, Sense of Place and Instagram.
11. Entrants must upload their entries as digital files at www.eyesonasiaawards.com and comply with the following specifications:
• sRGB or Adobe98 colour space, 8-bit;
• Measure 1000 Pixels on the longest side;
• Be saved as a JPEG at a setting of 10 (100%) higher.
• Instagram pictures, may not be altered outside of the device. No elements may be removed or added. Style and colors may be altered. The device has to be named when entering the picture. The picture can be entered in its full resolution format.
12. Winning entrants must also be able to provide a high-resolution or RAW digital file suitable for offset printing and to confirm no manipulations of the images have been made. Only minor burning, dodging and/or color correction is acceptable, as is cropping. High dynamic range images (HDR) and stitched panoramas are NOT acceptable. Any changes to the original photograph not itemized here are unacceptable and will render the photograph ineligible for a prize.
13. There is no time or date restriction on when the image was taken. However, we would like to see fresh and exciting photography. Please do not submit copies of previous awards winners. A previous winner from another contest will be disqualified.

Judging Conditions

14. Judging will be blind. No names or other indicators are allowed in or on the entry that could indicate who is the author of the entry.
15. Each entry will be scored by the separate judges.
16. The judging process is as follows:
• Each entry will be judged in its category and the judges' scores will be averaged to produce a final score. The images will be rated on a scale of 1 (lowest) through 6 (highest).
• The entry with the highest final score within each category will be deemed the category winner.
• In the case of a category tie, the judges' 3 individual scores for each entry will be added together to produce a score tie calculation. The entry with the highest score tie calculation will be deemed the winner.
• In the event that entries in a category are still tied at the end of the judging process, those images will be re-judged by a further independent judging panel to produce the winner.
• The top 5 placed entries from each category (the 'Finalist Entries') will be selected (as outlined above) and continue through to the final round of judging.
• The finalist entries will be judged by a panel of elite judges. Their scores will be averaged to produce a final score.
• The finalist entry with the highest final score will be deemed the major prize winner.
• In the case of a tie, the judges' individual scores for each Finalist Entry will be added together to produce a score tie calculation. The Finalist Entry with the highest score tie calculation will be deemed the winner.
• In the event that Finalist Entries are still tied at the end of the judging process, those Entries will be re-judged by the panel of elite judges to determine the winner.
17. The winner from each category will be selected and announced as results come to hand.
18. The Grand Prize and overall winner of the contest will be announced online.
19. All terms and conditions are subject to change without notice.

Image Copyright & Usage

20. Copyright of the images will remain at all times with the photographer.
21. Images will be used strictly in connection to the awards and will not be used for any other marketing purposes other then the exhibition of the winners and to promote the Eyes on Asia Awards. Images will not be resold or used by any other third party. If there is a request for such, we will forward that request to the photographers.
